James Quincey - Chairmen and CEO of Coca-Cola
James Quincey is the current Chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola. Quincey first joined the company in 1996, working his way up to the CEO by 2017, and the Chairmen of the Board in 2019.
He started with the company as the Director of learning strategy in the Latin America Group. This led to him working different operational roles eventually being appointed the president of the South Latin Division in 2003 and president of the companies Mexican division by 2005. He then worked different roles in the European division until he was appointed the President of the European division in 2013, where under his leadership the brand expanded its portfolio and improved market share. He also proved to play a key role in the creation of Coca-Cola European partners, one of the largest independent Coca-Cola bottlers in the world. From here he became the companies Cheif Operating Officer in 2015.
Due to his extensive work throughout the company holding many different positions and working his way through the ranks, Quincey is seen as a great leader through example. He is quoted saying, “To understand Coca-Cola, you have to work out in the business, or what we call the field. Because of those experiences, I came to a job at the headquarters in Atlanta with a pretty thorough understanding of how our business actually works, I also make it a priority to study what consumers want. That has always been a big part of all the jobs I’ve held.” He has gone on to explain his running the company sating, "I focus on inclusion, empowerment, and accountability, I give my leadership team and all employees the license to make decisions. Everyone in the company has the freedom to be agile and curious, but there is also accountability for your work. I try to lead by example."
Quincey has also gone on to witness the completion of the franchising of the company’s North American bottling network, investments, and acquisitions of growth-driving brands as well as new innovations from The Coca-Cola Co.’s established brands and categories. These achievements have set up a pristine growth model for the future, and even won him the 2018 executive of the year.
